Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah

31 01 2008

Since I mentioned Jeff Buckley in my Kate Walsh post I had to listen to one of the most beautiful voices of all time.  Jeff Buckley’s untimely death is one of the greatest losses to the future of music that we’ve ever seen.  This includes Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and I believe even Jimi Hendrix.  Looking at his spot in a local Boston CD store it’s sad to know that nothing “new” will ever fill that space.

Gray Room, 9 Crimes & Coconut Skins by Damien Rice

9 12 2007

The first time I heard the first track (Delicate) of “O” from Damien Rice I immediately thought maybe we have a successor to Jeff Buckley! The one, two, three, four punch of Delicate, Volcano, The Blower’s Daughter & Cannonball was the greatest thing I’ve heard since The Last Goodbye, Hallelujah and Lover, You Should’ve Come Over.  So because of O’s greatest I was originally to harsh on Damien’s follow up album (CD, disk, download, whatever).  Except for a few tracks, 9 Crimes, Coconut Skins, Gray Room, I initially hated the CD.  However, over time and not having listened to it in months I have grown to really love this CD.  My favorites are still 9 Crimes (with Lisa Hannigan), Coconut Skins & Gray Room.
